Expanded Mesh Sunshade Façade

Populous set in on this convention center refurbishment to align the design intent with the urban plan and mixed-use environment immediately around it. To do this, they reoriented the entrance to align with district activations. This orientation requirement led to the use of a large expanded mesh sunshade across the façade of the building to ensure a large area for natural light to enter but also reduce heat gain and glare. The material selection also allowed the architect to give the aging building a new and innovative look to mirror the progressive events in the newly rejuvenated convention center.
