AMICO Architectural Metals

Plank grating is an uncommon material used for amazing architectural facade results.

Patkau’s award-winning Polygon Museum is likely one of the most iconic uses of plank grating as an architectural facade. This material is typically used in industrial walkways, but for the right project, when repurposed well, it can create an overwhelmingly beautiful effect.

This installation snapshot from the Polygon Gallery shows how the reflective material placed behind the plank grating can offer a contrasting sheen that sets off the facade with a shimmer.

Plank grating can also be used as a sunshade. Here, the Institut de Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie is clad in an offset sunshade constructed using plank grating.

Each individual plank is tied back to a steel support structure at various angles and offsets to give a variation of opacity and visible texture.
