Recently, we began some work with a client, and the building owner, during our collaboration meeting, posed an excellent question:
“What will the expanded mesh or perforated metal look like from a distance?”
With a prominent interstate-facing lot, the owner wanted his building to present well from a distance. The project calls for a long parapet-type screen across the facade of the building. The challenge with this design is to provide a cost-effective, excellent design that the owner can be proud of.
Architectural metals, at different distances and different times of the day, can shift tone and appearance slightly. To help the customer visualize their material choices, we created a 3-step part presentation to help the client visualize their building.
- What does the mesh or perf look like at different distances?
- What are cost-effective design elements that the architect can introduce to make the mehs or perf design interesting?
- What finishes will make the design pop in this particular circumstance?
